St. Patrick's committe has agreed to continue donating to One More Chance - a street children's home located in Lebak Bulus South Jakarta. The director, Joel Carre has plans to reduce the monthly running costs for 2005 by closing down one of the homes and only maintain one home for boys and one for girls. The donation from St. Patricks will be used to pay the annual rent for one of these homes.
Two new charities St. Patrick's has sponsored this year are Jakarta International Muslim Society (JIMS)and Yayasan Amal Sholeh. JIMS has requested money for the construction of latrines in a remote village in South Banten. At present all toilet, laundry and washing is done in the polluted river and increases the risk of typhoid, dysentery and other water-borne diseases. JIMS plans to construct 3 toilets to accomodate the needs of the approx 250 residents in the area. Alongside the construction they will also provide nformation on the importance of proper sanitation and cleanliness for good health.
Yayasan Amal Sholeh is an organisation that helps the bereaved cope with the emotional and financial confusion that arises at the time of the death of a loved one. It provides free or low cost funeral services for those that cannot afford a decent burial and funeral service. St. Patrick's donation has been used to set up the organisation's membership system and purchase the paraphernalia that is required for the bathing and interring of the deceased.
